Are you one of the patients who avoids going to the dentist? Does the thought of a dental appointment make you anxious and even fearful? If so, A Dental & Denture is delighted to offer nitrous oxide sedation in Seattle, Washington, to ensure you can enjoy dentistry again. Once you experience sedation dental care from Ms. Angelica Summer and the team, you’ll never feel the need to fear dentistry again.
Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing or happy gas, is one of the most common sedation options in dentistry. This sedation is administered through a mask placed over your mouth, nose, or both.
Nitrous oxide takes effect immediately after inhalation, helping patients feel calm and relaxed. While under sedation, you may experience a slight headache and tingling in your extremities, but the overall sensation is one of calmness. Unlike other sedatives, laughing gas doesn’t put you to sleep. You will remain aware of your surroundings and be able to communicate with the dental team throughout the procedure.
The sedation effects leave your body immediately after the mask is removed. This way, you can resume your everyday activities right after treatment.
Anyone anxious about dentistry can benefit from sedation dental care. Laughing gas is perfect for those with mild to moderate dental anxiety. Nitrous oxide is also ideal if you have a low pain threshold, can’t stay still in the dental chair, and have a strong gag reflex.
Nitrous oxide sedation isn’t suitable for patients with extreme dental fear and who need extensive procedures like oral surgery. The dentist will recommend other deeper sedation options or general anesthesia in such cases.
Nitrous oxide sedation is very safe when administered by a trained professional. It’s one of the safest sedatives used in dentistry, with few side effects and a rapid onset and recovery time.
Unlike oral or IV sedation, the effects of nitrous oxide dissipate immediately after the mask is removed. When your procedure is over, the dentist administers 100% oxygen through the same mask. This helps flush out the nitrous oxide from the system and quickly reverses its effects. Since the sedation effects wear out immediately, you don’t need an escort to and from our office.
The following are the benefits of nitrous oxide sedation.
Have you been avoiding dental appointments because of dental fear? Imagine feeling relaxed at your next dental visit! This can become a reality with sedation dentistry at A Dental & Denture. Call (206) 445-0030 to discover your suitability for nitrous oxide sedation.
