We love to see your kids!
If your kids brush and floss on a regular basis, most likely they’re preventing any oral disease and decay. Our dentist in Seattle can also help you prevent and identify any future dental problems. If your kids have good oral condition, an annual visit to our dental office may be enough.
At A Dental & Denture, we recommend that you bring your kids in for routine checkups and cleanings before the first birthday, and every six months after that. It’s important that your kids feel comfortable during their dental visits.
We usually perform a comprehensive exam to diagnose any possible gum disease. If your kids have no signs of dental problems, we perform a regular cleaning. Once the cleaning is complete, one of our staff will follow up with you to discuss about any treatment plan if needed.
Sealants for Kids
In order for the prevention of cavities, here at Seattle dentist office, we apply a thin plastic film on the outer surfaces of molars. And it’s called a sealant. It’s highly effective in preventing cavities.
A sealant usually last for somewhere between 5 and 10 years. Our dentist in Seattle, Dr. Jon Tarleton can check your sealants during your regular dental checkups and if it’s not in place correctly, it can be reapplied.
Back teeth have deep grooves and pits that are very difficult to keep clean. Plaque, which is a nearly invisible film of bacteria and food, collects in these groves. To make the plaque easier to see, we may stain the plaque with a harmless red dye. Every time you eat the bacteria in plaque forms acid. Without sealants, these acid attacks can cause the enamel to break down, and you get a cavity.
Age One Dental Visit
You may think that baby teeth are just baby teeth, and they will fall out eventually. We’re sorry, but you’re wrong. Your baby’s primary teeth are the guides for the permanent teeth and will affect the oral health and function of their permanent teeth. In addition, children usually don’t lose their teeth until about age six, and the last teeth might stay until about age 12. That’s why it’s very important to take good care of the baby teeth.
The importance of the baby teeth is deeply connected with your kids’ permanent teeth as explained above. And preparing for a lifetime of optimal oral health are one of the main reasons why you should bring your children to see your dentist in Seattle as early as your kids’ first birthday.
The age one dental visit will also identify any underlying oral conditions that may cause problems in the future. if your baby has low risk for oral disease, he/she only needs to be seen every six month or so until his/her primary teeth are fully erupted.
