When restoring damaged or weakened teeth, dental crowns are a trusted solution for many patients in Seattle, Washington. If you’re wondering whether a dental crown is right for you, how the process works, or how to find a reliable dentist nearby, you’ve come to the right place. At A Dental & Denture, we are committed to helping Seattle residents achieve strong, natural-looking smiles with expert crown care. Here are answers to some of the most common questions about dental crowns in Seattle.
Whether you need a dental crown or a filling depends largely on the extent of damage or decay in your tooth. Fillings are typically used to repair minor cavities or small cracks, restoring the tooth’s shape and function. However, a dental crown may be the better option if the damageย is more significant, such as a large cavity, a cracked tooth, or a tooth that has undergone root canal therapy. Crowns fully cover the damaged tooth, providing extra strength and protection. At your Seattle dental consultation, your dentist will evaluate your teeth’s condition and recommend the treatment that best ensures long-term oral health.
The time to get a dental crown can vary depending on the dental practice and technology. Traditionally, dental crowns require two visits spaced a few weeks apart: the first to prepare the tooth and take impressions, and the second to place the permanent crown after it is fabricated in a dental lab. However, many Seattle dentists, including A Dental & Denture, offer advanced same-day crown technology. This allows you to have your crown designed, milled, and placed in just one appointment,ย often within a few hours. This option saves you time and minimizes the number of visits to the office.
A proper fit is crucial for both comfort and function. Seattle dentists take precise digital scans or impressions of your tooth and bite to create a crown tailored to your unique mouth structure. During the fitting appointment, your dentist will check theย crown’s alignment, bite, and appearance, making any necessary adjustments. The crown is then permanently cemented, ensuring it stays secure while feeling natural when you chew and speak. Follow-up visits may be scheduled to confirm the fit remains perfectย over time.
While dental crowns are designed to be durable, they can sometimes chip or crack due to trauma, grinding, or wear. Minor chips can often be smoothed or repaired with dental bonding. However, more significant damage typically requires crown replacement to restore proper function and aesthetics. If your crown is damaged, it’s important to visit your Seattle dentist promptly to avoid further complications or damage to the underlying tooth.
